Introducing the Lo Smarrino Gang
It may be a peaceful nest in one of the quietest corners of Umbria, but that doesn’t mean you won’t have any company here at Lo Smarrino.
Our lively gang of animals and house pets love to keep our guests entertained with a daily dose of hijinks and shenanigans.
Silvia & Enrico
Piacere! An Italian couple from the Veneto region, we spent several years working in the fashion industry, which whisked us (and our pets) around the world to countries like Pakistan, Mauritius, Hong Kong, and The Netherlands.
After many years abroad, we found ourselves longing for a slower pace of life that would allow us to spend more time in nature with our animals -- that's when we decided to return home to Italy. Not long afterward, we discovered our little corner of paradise here in Umbria and set about turning it into a place of relaxation and renewal.
The Boys
Of the many four-footed neighbors you will meet here at Lo Smarinno, Indigo, our Dutch Friesian cross, and Pegaso, our Umbrian Shetty, Sultao the portuguese new entry, are likely to be your first introduction.
While they couldn’t be more different in appearance and temperament, don’t let these two fool you – they are the best of friends and attached like glue.
Never far away from the action, you’ll find them trotting about as you take your breakfast on the morning patio or lounge by the pool with an afternoon spritz.
The Girls
They may look like they’re doing nothing, but we assure you that our hens are busy laying some of the freshest eggs you have ever tasted!
We never miss a chance to spoil our beaked roommates, as we understand how much energy goes into producing these organic eggs that we use daily in our delicious, homemade recipes.
The receptionists
From the moment you enter the gate at Lo Smarrino until the moment you leave, these two will shadow you. The true characteristic of a devoted receptionist is it not?!
Aaron is a Maremma sheepdog mix, while Margot is a bit of a mystery. We rescued both dogs as puppies, raising them with a tremendous amount of love and devotion. The result? Two wonderful family dogs with sweet temperaments.
The influencer
The undisputed Instagram Star of Lo Smarrino, Biscotto loves to spend his time bossing around Aaron and Margo (along with anyone else who might happen to be around), and hankering for cuddles from those nearby.
A sweet and affectionate four-footed feline, make sure to keep your fridge closes as he loves to hunt down treats!
The Kitchen garden
We may be best suited to raising things with four feet, but after pouring our hearts and souls into the first trial of our garden, it turned out so well that we decided to expand!
A diverse mix of organic flowers and vegetables, this beautiful little garden doubles as our local market – providing tasty, healthy, fresh-from-the-earth ingredients that inspire our most delectable and authentic dishes. (Hint: If you can’t find Silvia, this is the first place you should look.)
The open air store
When in season, our bushes at Lo Smarrino swell with berries ripe for picking (and making our infamous homemade jam).
As our guests, you can pick these little jewels until your heart’s content. They make an excellent mid-afternoon snack or delicious morning breakfast treat.
